Began boxing: When he was ten.
Trained for two years before his first fight.
Style: "Push the guy as hard as I can so he gets tired before I
do. I'm a close fighter. I don't like fighting outside
the box. I like to stay inside."
Training: Running 20 laps,
60 pushups, 70 sit ups, jump rope 4 rounds, spar 8
rounds, 4 rounds bag work, 4 rounds working the hand mitts, 20
more laps, and pushups & sit ups again.
Hobbies
(besides boxing): Basketball, girls, hanging out with
friends
Favorite Boxer: Sugar Ray
Leonard. "He was a damn good boxer," says
Steward.
Goals outside of the ring: His goals
are to finish school. He says, "I'm going to school to
be an electrician." This is Stewards last year as an amateur
because he's almost done with school. He has no plans on
turning pro.

I had my first brain
surgery when I was a teenager. Doctors found a tumor and removed
as much of it as they could. After surgery, I remember being
wheeled into a dark room. I was alone. I was
scared. The nurse told me that she couldn't sit with me
because there wasn't enough staff on duty. I laid there by myself
for several moments, then reached for the remote control, hoping
for something - anything - to take my mind off of what I had just
went through. I flipped on the TV; there was a fight on. I
remember feeling calm after that. Eventually I dozed off, but that
began my love affair with boxing.
It's now over a decade
later and boxing is my passion. Even though I can never experience
what it is like to step in the ring, to face an opponent, to slip
a punch, to throw a combination, I love it. It's always been there
for me when I've needed it. Problem is, my brain tumor has become
active again. It's growing and it's inoperable. Boxing helped me
get through this the first time; I'm hoping that boxing and the
many friends I've made within the sport will do so
again.
I'm not writing this looking for sympathy. True to
the nature of the sport I love, I'm not asking for anything. What
I get, I will have earned. I just wanted to keep you all informed
and updated. I'd like you all to remember that this website is
here for you, the product of my devotion to boxing. If I have one
request, it's that this website continues on. Please help me keep
it updated. Feel free to send me results and update me on anything
you hear. Someone will always be around to make sure it gets
posted.
So I guess that's it. If you'd like, say a prayer.
I'll see ya around.
