Packed house at Wadena tonight. Best night of boxing I’ve ever seen there.

1. 138 lbs John Johnson (Wadena) dec Casey Holt (Detroit Lakes)

-Wild swinging with both landing good shots. Johnson would get off quicker but Casey was very much in the fight.

2. 90 lbs Albert Boldt (Wadena) dec Charles Oothoudt (Leech Lake)

-Charles had a decent size and reach advantage on Albert and would use his reach to jab Albert…..but Albert is a beast and would get inside and get his shots off tagging Charles several times.

3. 135 lbs Kira Ollila (Wadena) RSC1 Letesha Anderson (Detroit Lakes)

-Rematch from an earlier bout this year. This time Latesha had no answers for Kira’s quicker, straighter punches.

4. 125 lbs Shane Motschenbacher (Wadena) dec Luke Zontelli (Brainerd)

-Shane fought a good fight. Luke is a tough kid though and stayed in the fight.

5. S-HWY Jose Perez (Wadena) RSC2 Dylan Windowski (Brainerd)

-Last time these two met, it wasn’t a good outcome for Dylan. But, Dylan fought great in the first round and in my opinion, won the round…..he used his jab and wouldn’t let Jose get in on the inside. Dylan tired in the 2nd round and Jose jumped on him.

6. 135 lbs Taylor Geiser (Wadena) walkover Autumn Harper (Leech Lake)

-Too bad that the fans didn’t get to see Taylor one last time this year. She is such a great fighter. Looking forward to seeing her next year.

123 lbs Santo Reyes (Willmar) unopposed

7. 132 lbs Nate Rubin (Brainerd) dec Sergio Garcia (Fergus Falls)

-These two were mirror images of each other. This was the best fight of the night (as far as technical skill is involved). Nate would often switch from an orthodox stance to a lefty stance. Great combinations from both boxers…and both had the other in trouble at times. Awesome fight.

141 lbs Rondell Hubbert (Fergus Falls) unopposed

8. 152 lbs Jesse Wannemacher (Fergus Falls) dec TJ Steward (Wadena)

-The rematch from last year’s final that TJ had won in a very close brawl. This was another brawl and fan friendly fight. Jesse was landing the more telling blows and won a clear decision.

9. 165 lbs Shane Kern (Detroit Lakes) dec Travis Petro (Wadena)

-This was close and should have gone the other way. Travis was hitting Kern with excellent shots and moved well and would make Shane miss at times.

10. S-HWY Justin Issacson (Wadena) dec Eric Lamb (SCGG)

-What a great win for Issacson. Justin is improving everytime I see him and his hands are getting faster; good jab and straight right when he throws them with discipline. Both fighters getting gassed in the 2nd and 3rd round and Issacson would not let Lamb get off the hook and would punish him with multiple combinations.

11. 178 lbs Dewayne Steward (Wadena) walkover JR Robinson (Leech Lake)

12. HWY Glenn Sommars (White Earth) dec Trent Petro (Wadena)

-Rematch from an earlier fight this year that Petro had won. This time Glenn fought well and was beating Petro to the punch. It was a close bout but a clear win for Glenn. Both fighters were in great shape and Sommars should fare well this year in Walker with the lost weight and increased endurance.

Region 4 is bringing a pretty solid team to Walker. Should be a lot of fun.
